‘Rula diya na bechari ko’ – Fans react to Danielle Wyatt being left ‘heartbroken’ after getting unsold in Women’s T20 League Auction
The Indian Cricket Board took the initiative to launch the Women’s T20 League after the huge success of the Indian T20 League. On Monday, many players were auctioned for the 5 franchise teams of the inaugural season of the Women’s T20 League. Indian opener Smriti Mandhana became the most expensive player as she was signed by Mumbai for INR 3.4 cr, while there were many players who could not find any buyer.
Many big names couldn’t attract the owners as no team showed interest in them and they remained unsold. It also includes the name of England’s veteran player Danielle Wyatt. To enter the first edition of the tournament, she had listed her name at a base price of 50 lakhs. When her name was called in the auction, no franchise raised the paddle for her and she remained unsold. The English star cricketer seemed distraught after missing out on a contract and penned an emotional tweet on her Twitter handle.

Many big names went unsold in the auction
Wyatt has an illustrious international career as she has played a total of 102 ODIs and 140 T20 International matches for his country so far. Wyatt has scored 1176 runs in ODIs which included 2 centuries and 5 half-centuries. She has 2276 runs in T20 at a strike rate of 124.50. She also has 2 centuries and 10 half-centuries in the shortest format. Wyatt has played 16 T20Is in India, in which she has scored 384 runs at an average of 29.53 with a top score of 124. Against India, Wyatt averages 40.57, having racked up 284 runs from nine games.
87 cricketers were signed in the auction and the franchises spent INR 59.50 crores to buy them. While Mandhana was the most expensive buy, among overseas players, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Ash Gardner fetched the highest bids. There were also some shocking names like Katherine Sciver-Brunt, Grace Scrivens, Sarah Glenn, Freya Davies, Tammy Beaumont, Amy Jones, and Wyatt who couldn’t find a buyer.
Meanwhile, the Indian team, who started their Women’s 20-20 World Cup campaign with a thrashing victory over arch-rivals Pakistan, will face West Indies on Wednesday, February 15. Mandhana will look to make a comeback as she missed the first match due to a finger injury.
