Argentina started their World Cup qualifiers campaign with a win.

Argentina beat Ecuador in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers in Football. It was again the talismanic Lionel Messi who helped his team win the match. Messi scored a beautiful goal in the form of a free kick and made fans go wow before helping his team claim the win. In a game that Argentina dominated, the 2022 World Cup-winning captain shined for his team. 

In a game full of Argentine domination, Lionel Messi played like a champ. There were 13 shots on target from Argentina, compared to 5 from Ecuador. 4 shots were on target from the World Champions compared to 3 from Ecuador. Argentina had a staggering possession of 71% throughout the match, compared to 29% from Ecuador. The three-time world champions committed only 9 fouls compared to 13 from Ecuador. 

Argentina had a fabulous pass accuracy of 87%, while Ecuador had a 72% pass accuracy. The total number of passes from Argentina was 710, which was just 294 from Ecuador. Argentina clearly outplayed Ecuador in the game and there are no second thoughts about it. What made the headlines in the match was the free kick from Messi which turned out to be a goal for Argentina. 

Messi’s magic works well for Argentina against Ecuador

In the 78th minute of the game, Argentina got an opportunity free kick very close to the goal post. The Argentine captain Messi stepped up and took the onus on himself to attempt the shot. The 36-year-old placed the ball so neatly towards the right of the goalkeeper that it pierced the corner of the goal post with perfection. The goalkeeper did not even care to attempt a save. 

The goal established the lead for Argentina, which was held by the defending champions for the rest of the game. The 4-3-3 combination worked well for Argentina in Estadio Mas Monumental stadium, as they won the match 1-0 against Ecuador. The defending champions have started their World Cup qualifiers on a good note and are currently on the top of the table.
