Injured Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the second Test match between Indian and Bangladesh say reports. The Indian skipper has sustained a thumb injury in the third ODI between India and Bangladesh following which the batter had to take a break for the first Test match.

The news reports that have been received on Monday morning revealed that Rohit Sharma’s thumb is yet to fully heal. The 35-year-old seems to be suffering from stiffness in his thumb. Considering the importance of the player and the significance of games coming ahead, the Indian Cricket Board has taken a decision to not take any risk and rest Sharma from the second Test as well.

The Indian skipper has flown to Mumbai and will continue to go through the rehab process for his thumb injury. Meanwhile, stand-in captain KL Rahul will continue to lead the team in the second Test match that starts on 22 December at Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Mirpur.

India outclassed Bangladesh in the first Test defeating the home team by a huge 188 runs. Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara brought out their individual centuries while Kuldeep Yadav took an 8-fer to achieve a dominating victory over the neighbours.

Earlier India had faced a disappointing loss in the ODI series when they lost by 1-2. It was Bangladesh’s back-to-back ODI series victory against India in their home. India faced massive criticism following their loss and all eyes were set on the Test series.

So far the Men in Blue have managed to keep the criticism at bay with a valiant effort in red-ball cricket. The KL Rahul-led team would be looking to whitewash Bangladesh with a win in the second Test as well.

Rohit Sharma is expected to join the India team for the white ball series against Sri Lanka from January 3rd.
