Rohit Sharma is having a tough time with the bat in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. The Indian captain has managed to score just one half-century so far in the tournament against the Netherlands and has only 89 runs to his name in five innings. With the lack of runs from the rest of the batters, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav have taken the onus of scoring the bulk of runs for the team. Rohit was full of praise for Suryakumar Yadav ahead of the semi-final against England.

In the pre-match press conference ahead of the semi-final, Rohit was asked how Suryakumar Yadav managed to succeed while playing fearless cricket in Australia. The 35-year-old mentioned that SKY has managed to play fearlessly because he doesn’t carry any baggage with him.

Rohit later clarified his statement by adding that when he mentioned baggage, he didn’t mean about the number of suitcases SKY carries because he carries a lot of them since he is a shopaholic.

“I think he is the sort of guy who just doesn’t carry any baggage with him. Not his suitcases, I mean he’s got a lot of suitcases. Honestly speaking, he loves his shopping. But when it comes to carrying that extra pressure, extra baggage,” Rohit added.

Ahead of the world cup, Rohit Sharma was quite vocal about Indian players showing intent right from the word go to make full use of the powerplay overs. However, with conditions favouring the bowlers, the Men in Blue had to change their game plan.

“I remember talking about playing fearlessly. For us looking at the conditions here it is not about coming and swinging the bat. It is only because of conditions. It is about adapting to conditions,” Rohit said at the pre-match press conference.

India will go up against England in the second semi-final of the 20-20 World Cup on Thursday. Having failed to go big in the tournament so far, Rohit Sharma will be eager to bring his A game to the table and take his team into the finals. India last played in the finals of the 20-20 World Cup in 2014 where they lost to Sri Lanka.
