After crushing the Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh team in the second Test by 3 wickets, the Indian camp will march on to the hectic home schedule against Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Australia. To add more, the Indian team will face off against the Sri Lankan nation in the three-match ODI and T20I series.

As things stand, reports emerged on December 26, Monday, claiming that the Indian batter Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul might as well miss the T20I series against the Island Nation that will kick off on January 3. To add more, while Rohit is yet to recover from the injury he sustained earlier, Rahul, on the other hand, is all set to tie the knot with long-time girlfriend Athiya Shetty.

Hardik Pandya to lead India in T20Is vs Sri Lanka in absence of Rohit Sharma?

As things stand, Hardik Pandya, who led the team in the T20I series against the Black Caps post the conclusion of the 20-20 World Cup 2022, is all set to wear the captaincy hat yet again. It remains to be seen if the Indian team would continue their winning streak under Pandya’s captaincy.

The two openers, however, have been in the worst of their forms throughout 2022 and Rahul ended the year with an average of 25.68, aggregating 822 runs in total matches. The Men in Blue will have an uphill task to defeat the likes of Sri Lanka, the Black Caps and Australia, given that the Border-Gavaskar trophy could be vital for India’s qualification for the finals of the Test championship.

Rohit, the all-format skipper, on the other hand, ended the year with 995 runs to his name in 40 innings, at an average of around 27, much to the dreariness of the Indian fans. With both players ending the year with a poor mark, India would be hoping to turn things around as they are going through what can be called the roughest phase in recent times.

While the Indian team await the squad for the Sri Lanka series, fans, on the other hand, are hoping to see some of the best players return to form and making a roaring comeback ahead of the 50-over World Cup scheduled to take place in India in 2023.
