In India, the sport of cricket is equivalent to a religion, and legendary cricketers have a status close to deity. Anybody desires to get a crack at an image of their favourite player, from hotel staff to bus drivers. Cricket has always been very popular in India, but in recent years the interest has reached entirely new heights. It makes sense why fans would go against the law to meet their favourite celebrities.

In a video posted by the Mumbai Indians on their Youtube channel, the Mumbai Indians skipper surprised a few fans who had been called to record a video for the player and wish him a very happy birthday. To their surprise, Rohit Sharma came to shock them and said to wish him on his face and asked them why are they wishing him early as his birthday is on April 30th.

One of the fans went berserk and tried touching Rohit Sharma’s feet, it was an amusing sight as the skipper in his own style told him to get up and not do that. It was an amazing gesture by the Indian opener and one that will surely be in the hearts and minds of those lucky fans for a lifetime.

What were other previous instances of fans going crazy for the Mumbai Indians skipper?

The cricketing community saw another instance of this type of occurrence on Saturday (January 21), when a spectator went by security to enter the pitch. A teenage supporter ran onto the pitch during the second One-Day International involving India and New Zealand in Raipur to hug Indian captain Rohit Sharma. The moment the child hugged Rohit, security personnel approached and removed him from the playing area. The supporter also ended up entering the pitch as a result of the operation.

Rohit Sharma and Mumbai Indians would be in action once again on Sunday at the Wankhede stadium against the Rajasthan Royals. The team would be hoping to get back to winning ways after a string of poor performances in their last two games against Punjab Kings and the defending champions Gujarat Titans.
