India recently won the ODI series 3-0 against New Zealand and a T20I series between the two sides is set to get underway on Friday. India, although registered a dominating series win, Rohit Sharma’s captaincy came under pressure last year as India failed to lift the 20-20 World Cup in Australia after they crashed out of the semi-final against England. In 2023, Rohit and Virat Kohli have not taken part in T20Is for India since the World event in Australia.

Rohit and Kohli are not part of the T20Is against New Zealand as well, there has been no official comment from the Indian Cricket Board as to who would be the next captain in T20Is for India. Reports are coming in that Hardik Pandya will most likely be handed the baton from Rohit. Pakistan wicket-keeper batter Kamran Akmal issued an explosive statement on the same.

You can have two captians to manage workload-  Kamran Akmal

“You can have two captains, for sure. You can manage workload that way. It’s not easy to captain in all three formats. Virat Kohli ki himmat hai vo 5 saal nikaal gaya, Rohit Sharma ko ek saal nahi hua aur uski haalat dekh lo kya ho gayi. Toss me bataana bhool gaya ki batting karni hai ya bowling (Kohli is brave that he spent 5 years as captain across formats. Rohit didn’t even complete a year and look what’s happening to him. He even forgot at the toss if he wants to bat or bowl),” Akmal said.

The toss incident that Akmal is referring to happened in the second ODI against New Zealand at Raipur. Rohit had a brain-fade moment at the toss after the coin was spun as he forgot whether India are going to bat first or bowl first. Javed Miandad also had a similar moment years ago. The video of the same had recently gone viral.

The wicketkeeper batter also talked about captaincy troubles back in his home country. Babar Azam has been put under pressure as he failed to deliver in the Test series against England and New Zealand and also lost the ODI series to the Kiwis 2-1. These matches have not gone in favour of Pakistan and have raised questions about Babar’s ability to lead the side.
