Indian Premier League 2023 is heading towards its business end. Ahead of the playoffs former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar picked his three all-time greatest players of the Indian Premier League. He picked CSK skipper MS Dhoni, former India skipper Virat Kohli and MI skipper Rohit Sharma.

His decision to pick Rohit has created a buzz on social media as fans trolled Gavaskar for picking him up as a goat player. Notably, Rohit has been inconsistent in the last few years in the cash-rich league. He last scored 500+ runs in 2015. However, fans also pointed out that the little master left players like AB de Villiers, David Warner and Chris Gayle who have more impact in the league.

Notably, Gavaskar also slammed England pacer Jofra Archer and said that Mumbai Indians should not pay him a single penny. Notably, the English pacer returned home after suffering an injury. He had a poor season with the bowl as he clinched just two wickets in five games and missed six games before going back home.

“No point paying even one rupee”, Says Sunil Gavaskar

Speaking about Archer’s injury and his performance Gavaskar said that team management persisted with him but he didn’t deliver. In a newspaper column, he wrote, “What has been Mumbai Indians’ experience of Jofra Archer? They took a punt on him, knowing that he was injured and would be available only from this season. They paid big money for him, and what has he given in return? He didn’t seem 100 per cent fit, and he should have informed the franchise about it.”

“They only realised when he turned up and found that he could barely bowl at his usual pace. In between the tournament, he went abroad for treatment which is what his country’s cricket board said. So he was never fully fit but still came over. If he was committed to the franchise, which probably pays him more than the ECB does, he should have stayed right till the end even if he wasn’t going to play and show his commitment towards the franchise. Instead, he has opted to fly off back to the UK,” Gavaskar further added.
