Ricky Ponting opens up on Rishabh Pant’s chances of playing in upcoming IPL 2024

The Indian Premier League(IPL) is just a month away from its commencement. The Indian cricket fans will be hoping to witness another breath-taking tournament which will be filled with big shots and drama. The one team who will want to make a comeback after the last two disappointing seasons is Delhi Capitals. The Delhi franchise has been underachieving in their attempts during the IPL where they have been part of just one final in 2020. There have been some great players in this squad which now includes the likes of David Warner and Axar Patel. After reaching the playoffs in the 2021 season they did not have the best of seasons where they finished 9^th in 2023 and 5^th in 2022.

The one player they were missing last season was the swash-buckling left-handed wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant, who could not play last season due to an injury caused by a horrific accident. However, the 26-year-old Capitals star player has been showing great recovery and is looking much fitter and ready to play. He has also been the leading run scorer for the Delhi franchise with over 4000 runs in 179 games. Every Capitals fan has missed the player and wants to see him back on the field.

Delhi Capitals’ head coach also gave his opinion on Pant playing in the upcoming season as well and displayed his eagerness to see Pant play this season saying that he is not a hundred per cent sure yet, but he has made good progress so far and will be looking forward to see him play this year. The former legend also added further saying “ But I’ll guarantee if I asked him now, he’ll say, ‘I’m playing every game, I’m keeping every game and I’m batting at No.4. That’s just what he’s like, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed.”

This statement by the coach might not have given us a hundred per cent confirmation whether Pant will be playing this season or not, but it is definitely something that everyone will be looking forward to. It is still good to see Pant being active and looking much more composed on social media while going through his recovery. We all shall expect some big things once he enters into the field as he has kept high standards for himself already. The talent and athleticism of Pant will be the major factor for the Delhi Capitals once he has confirmed to be playing for the franchise after missing last season.
