Results for India on Day 4 of Commonwealth Games 2022
The Indian contingent has put up a very strong show at the Commonwealth Games 2022 so far. They have earned seven medals in weightlifting and two in Judo, respectively. The Women in Blue Cricket team also beat Pakistan Women comprehensively in their second match of CWG 2022.
Here are the results from Day 4 of CWG 2022 in Birmingham
Squash
Saurav Ghoshal beat Scotland’s Greg Lobban 3-1 to enter the Men’s Singles semifinals, where he will face Paul Coll of New Zealand.
Joshna Chinappa lost to Canada’s Hollie Naughton 3-0 (11-9, 11-5, 14-13) as she was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Sunayna Sara Kuruvilla beat Chanithma Sinaly of Sri Lanka 3-0 (11-3, 11-2, 11-2) in the Women’s Singles Plate Quarterfinal.
Boxing
Amit Panghal defeated Namri Berri of Vanuatu 5-0 to enter the Men’s Flyweight category quarterfinal.
Hussamuddin beat Salim Hossain of Bangladesh 5-0 to enter the quarterfinal of the Men’s Featherweight category.
Ashish Kumar beat Travis Tapatuetoa of Niue 5-0 to enter the quarterfinal of the Men’s Light Heavyweight class.
Artistic Gymnastics
Pranati finishes fifth overall in the Women’s Vault Final with a score of 12.699.
Weightlifting
Harjinder won the bronze with a combined weight of 212kg (93kg in the Snatch and 119kg in the Clean and Jerk) in the Women’s 71kg category.
Ajay Singh finished fourth in the Men’s 81kg class with a combined 319kg, lifting 143kg and 176kg in the Snatch and Clean and Jerk, respectively.
Cycling
Triyasha finished second from bottom in the repechage and is out of the finals in the Women’s Keirin.
Shushikala Agashe finished last in the repechage as well and is out of the final.
India’s Shushikala Agashe and Triyasha Paul finished last in their respective Heats (Heat 3 and Heat 4) and have qualified for the repechage.
Swimming and Para Swimming
India’s Sajan Prakash finished seventh in heats of men’s 100m butterfly with a timing of 54.36. He is out of contention for the finals.
Srihari Nataraj finished fifth in the Men’s 50m Backstroke final in 25.23 seconds.
Suyash Narayan Jadhav and Niranjan Mukundan finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the Men’s 50m Freestyle S7 Final.
Cycling Men’s 1000m Time Trial
Ronaldo clocks a timing of 1:02:500 minutes, finishing twelfth overall in the final.
Badminton
Lakshya Sen outsmarted reigning world champion Loh Kean Yew as India showed their might to blank Singapore 3-0 and enter the mixed team final at the Commonwealth Games here on Monday.
The men’s doubles pairing of Satwiksairaj Reddy and Chirag Shetty gave India the lead in the semifinal with a 21-11, 21-12 win over Yong Kai Terry Hee and Andu Jun Kian Kwek.
Two-time Olympic medallist P V Sindhu was clinical against 19th-ranked Jia Min Yeo for a 21-11, 21-12 result to extend India’s lead to 2-0.
The third match between Sen and Loh was the most anticipated rubber of the semifinal with the 10th-ranked Indian facing the ninth-ranked Singaporean. Sen, who extended his head-to-head count over Loh to 4-2, took his chances against the Singaporean and succeeded more often than not.
The Indian used his booming forehand to upset Loh’s rhythm. Sen started slow as Loh took a 4-0 lead in the first game. He bounced back to make it 6-6 after a long really, with Loh not sure whether to leave it or hit it.
The Indian went into the break with a slender 11-10 advantage and made it 14-10 with two unforced errors from Loh’s racket. He followed up with a powerful smash on Loh’s forehand and made it 16-10. Loh narrowed the gap, but Sen managed to go 1-0 up in the match after the Singaporead found the net.
The second game too was a tough battle, but Sen always maintained the lead and closed out the match.
Hockey
The Indian Men’s team drew with England 4-4 in a Group B match.
