‘Reels banate samay back pain nhi hota .. waah’- Fans react as Shreyas Iyer is ruled out of Ahmedabad Test due to back injury
Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the fourth Test against Australia due to a back injury. The Mumbai batter did not come out to bat in the first innings against the Kangaroos. He had a great year for India in Test cricket in 2022 and was India’s fulcrum in the middle order. The Indian cricket board gave a confirmation that Iyer will not play in the Ahmedabad Test anymore.
The right-handed batter had complained of back pain at the end of Day 3. He had gone for scans and so he did not bat for India in Ahmedabad. The board said that they will sort a ‘specialists’ opinion’ to treat him. “Shreyas Iyer complained of pain in his lower back following the third day’s play. He has gone for scans and the Indian Cricket Board’s Medical Team is monitoring him,” The board said in a previous update.
Shreyas Iyer had earlier missed the New Zealand series with a back injury
Iyer has had trouble with his back for the second time. He missed the New Zealand series due to a back injury and was sent to the National Cricket Academy for rehab. The-28-year-old has scored 666 runs at an average of 44.40 and at a strike rate of 65.81. The India batter has scored five fifties and one hundred to his name. His debut game took place at Green Park in Kanpur against New Zealand in 2021.
India are in a good position at Ahmedabad. India, in response to Australia’s massive score of 480 in the first innings, was led by a glorious 128 off 235 balls with 12 fours and one six. Virat Kohli broke the jinx and registered his 28th Test hundred after a gap of 1205 days. The Delhi batter was helped by Srikar Bharat, who made 44 off 28 balls.
Kohli scored 186 off 364 balls with 15 fours. This was Kohli’s first Test hundred since November 2019. India have retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and it will be their fourth series win against Australia if they draw the Test.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter-
Just reminiscing about Anil Kumble's incredible display of grit and determination at St John's on May 12, 2002. Despite a broken jaw, he bowled 14 overs and even managed to dismiss Brian Lara. A true testament to his fighting spirit! #cricketlegend #anilkumble

Not to forget Ashwin and Vihari from not too long ago in Sydney
If Shreyas iyer was available it would have allowed kohli to play more freely— Karthik Sharma (@Karthik62060318) March 13, 2023
Phle Hardik fir Jaddu fir Bumrah an shyad Iyer. Sab k sab fitness k naam p surgery kara lege. Kya fayda aisi sukhi body ka. KL har dusre din injured rahta h. Pta nhi kon trainer h Indian team ka. He should be held accountable

1- India was in position to win the test and Kumble was the in form spinner for day 5, so he took chalange.
2. Gream Smith took the charge here because south africa was struggling to save the test match & they failed. We're not in either position for risking any injury.

Can we just say, people have gone soft these days? Back then, cricket was played by men, but we see boys these days. Recently, I saw a video where Sunny G criticised Gill for taking a break during a over, I never saw such breaks during my childhood.

I think these days players are too much cautious of cementing the place in playing 11 ,so they don't want to risk their place or are afraid to play with even minor injuries

Well the question is if he was unfit how was he selected under playing XI? Or don't we have any other player who can be better fit and given chance?

There was a series on the line then, so the situation was different. Even Rohit batted with a bruised thumb against Bangladesh.
This series will at worst be a draw, and India will retain the BGT. There was no real reason for Iyer to come and bat while injured.

I have played a lot of cricket at the club & college level. Have played through multiple injuries & we didn’t even have access to things like cortisone injections. Combiflam gheun kamala lagayche. Not coming out to bat at all was just not acceptable.

Try playing or walking with a stiff back and then say what you say…
Hand injury or jaw injury is different. Let's not undermine his intent
