Team India batter KL Rahul has been doing batting practice in full swing in the nets ahead of the Asia Cup 2023. He is going through the recovery phase from his thigh injury. The right-handed batter picked up a thigh injury in a game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Ekana Stadium. This meant that he missed the second half of IPL 2023 to injury. Then Rahul flew down to England for surgery. Even when he left the IPL it did not make a difference to his Indian Premier League (IPL) side Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) who got into the top four.

Recently, videos of KL Rahul doing batting and wicketkeeping practice surfaced on social media. Rahul can be seen doing some batting drills and also wicket-keeping drills in the video. He can be seen practising behind a set of stumps wearing a helmet and also taking catches with the gloves. When he batted, he played some big shots, on a fitness front he looked chiselled and in good shape. The India batter has gone through some tough games in his career recently and has had a loss of form.

I think KL Rahul will be the first-choice wicketkeeper for India for World Cup 2023 if fit: Wasim Jaffer

The ODI World Cup will be held in India on October 5. One big decision that India will have to make would be who they keep as a wicketkeeper for the squad. In the recent past, Rahul has donned the gloves for Team India and also batted in the middle order for the national side. He has done a great job with the bat as well and has scored runs for the side at number 4. Wasim Jaffer gave his take on the India wicketkeeper debate.

“I think so. KL Rahul will obviously be the first choice if he is fit. After that, Sanju Samson could be the one. It could also be Ishan Kishan as the backup opener and wicketkeeper. Then Sanju might miss out,” Jaffer said on Jio Cinema. On the second wicketkeeper slot, Jaffer backed Sanju Samson to take the slot. Samson scored a wonderful half-century in the third ODI against West Indies.
