‘Real id se aao Shreyas Iyer bhai’ – Fans react as Akshay Totre makes his umpiring debut in practice match of ODI World Cup 2023

Akshay Totre, one of the local Indian umpires, made his debut in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. In the practice match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Hyderabad, Totre made his debut in the big tournament as an on-field umpire. The umpire has been in the news for his looks. He looks almost like the Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer from certain angles.

The presence of Totre in the match led to a meme fest on social media. Many related the umpire with Iyer and doubted if he was related in any way to Iyer. The fact that an old look from Iyer with a style in mustache and beard was the same as the one Totre sported during his umpire debut in the match between Pakistan and New Zealand.

During the match between the two world-class teams, Totre became a focus for his lookalike nature with Iyer. Totre though, was impressive as an on-field umpire. Though he is not very famous in the international arena and is relatively unknown, he has been the umpire in many of the first-class matches and other local tournaments in India.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan shine against New Zealand 

Pakistan had good batting practice against a bowling attack like New Zealand. Abdullah Shafique scored 14 runs in 25 balls and was undone by Mitchell Santner. Imam-Ul-Haq scored just a run in 10 balls and was dismissed by Matt Henry. Pakistani captain Babar Azam had a good outing with the bat. In his stay in the middle, the 28-year-old scored 80 runs in 84 balls, which included 8 boundaries and 2 sixes.

Mohammad Rizwan scored a fantastic ton for Pakistan and was undoubtedly the pick of the batters. Against a good bowling lineup like New Zealand, the middle order batter minimized the number of dot balls and ran a lot between the wickets. Going forward in the tournament, the form of Babar and Rizwan is crucial for Pakistan. Before the group stage, the knocks for the two batters would be a huge boost of confidence. For New Zealand, Santner claimed 2 wickets and Henry picked a wicket.
