The Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore met at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali to do battle. PBKS won the toss and chose to bowl. Virat Kohli started to off well and found his mojo. But as he went on, his innings became slow, and he lost his timing which cost RCB some valuable runs. In the end, Kohli scored a laborious 59 off 47 balls with five fours. Kohli fell to Harpreet Brar. Faf du Plessis, on the other hand, was batting on a different planet.

The South African wielded the willow like an axe and carted the Punjab Kings bowlers to all parts. He scored a sublime 84 off 56 balls. Kohli captained the side in place of Du Plessis as he could not field. That was the only positive for RCB through the innings. Maxwell, who came looking for the big hit after Kohli’s wicket, fell to Harpreet Brar. Du Plessis perished to Nathan Ellis when he tried to up the ante.

RCB bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals to keep their noses ahead of the game against PBKS

The trio of Dinesh Karthik, Mahipal Lomror and Shahbaz Ahmed could not finish well and RCB ended on 174 in their 20 overs. RCB, who was 91-0 after 10 overs, squandered it in the last 10 overs. It was a good comeback by PBKS in the final overs. In the second innings, Prabhsimran Singh was substituted by Rahul Chahar and Vyshak Vijaykumar came in for du Plessis.

In the second innings, RCB drew first blood when Atharva Taide went for just 4. Prabhisimran Singh continued his onslaught while wickets fell at one end. The opener smashed a cracking 46 off 30 balls with three fours and four sixes. Mathew Short, Liam Livingstone and Brar fell without troubling the scorers. RCB were very good with their fielding as Siraj and Hasaranga executed the runouts of Brar and Sam Curran.

While wickets continued to fall, Jitesh Sharma, with his big hitting, kept PBKS in the hunt. Siraj breathed fire with the ball and bowled a match-winning spell of 4-21 in his four overs. Hasaranga was expensive but he picked up two vital wickets in his four overs. RCB have defended a not-so-high total for the second time which should give them great confidence going forward.
