The Men in Blue have been dealt with another blow ahead of the first ODI against West Indies. India are likely to miss their star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja due to a niggle for the first ODI. The recent development before the start of the series leaves the Men in Blue in a spot of bother. The all-rounder might miss the ODI leg of the tour but would recover in time for the T20Is, provided the injury is not that serious.

As per the latest development, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has sustained a niggle on his knee and is likely to miss out on the series opener on Friday (22nd July) at Queen’s Park Oval stadium in Trinidad. On the eve of the 1st ODI, Indian skipper, Shikar Dhawan confirmed the development and informed the reporters that Ravindra Jadeja has indeed suffered a niggle in his knee and that the medical team is monitoring his situation. Jadeja’s injury might keep him away from the opening game of the series.

As reported by Cricbuzz, the 33-year-old might be out of the ODI leg of the tour and will return for the T20I leg. “The decision will depend on the precaution to prevent aggravating his ailment, which is reportedly in his left knee” A source close to the Indian Cricket board informed Cricbuzz.

Earlier, Indian batter KL Rahul, who is rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru following a groin surgery in Germany last month, tested positive for Covid-19. The news was confirmed by Indian Cricket Board president Sourav Ganguly after an Apex Council Meeting in Mumbai. Seeing this, KL Rahul’s participation in the T20I series is unlikely as the series will kick start from July 29.

Meanwhile , Ravindra Jadeja’s absence from the 50-over format has vacated the vice-captain’s position in the squad but reports have hinted that selectors might not take any call on that. Instead, head coach Rahul Dravid is likely to name Shikar Dhawan’s deputy.
