The former cricketer for India, Chetan Sharma, was abruptly fired from his job as chairman of selectors after a contentious TV sting revealed that he had revealed too much information.

The renowned right-arm fast bowler Ajit Agarkar was previously connected to the position of the head selector, but he is now more likely to land the demanding position. If Agarkar is chosen, Salil Ankola will be one of the other two selectors representing the West Zone. Agarkar, 45, has represented India in 26 Tests, 191 ODIs, and 4 T20 matches. Agarkar was a member of the support staff for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023 alongside head coach Ricky Ponting and was also a capable pinch-hitter with the bat.

Candidates in line to become Chief selector

Amol Muzumdar, as well as Tushar Arothe are on the radar for the position of head coach for the Indian women’s team and will be evaluated on June 30. Former Team India stalwarts Ravi Shastri and Dilip Vengsarkar are among the other well-known personalities on the list, according to reports.

While Muzumdar, who is additionally in talks to lead Baroda, has previously worked with both the South African national team and the IPL’s Rajasthan Royals, Arothe has already led the Indian team. Jon Lewis, an Englishman and former head coach at Durham, has reportedly submitted an application for the position.

The interviews will be conducted in Mumbai by the Cricket Advisory Committee, which consists of Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe, and Sulakshana Naik. An official source of the Indian Cricket Board told PTI that the interviews of the candidates will be taking place on April 1st.

After Chetan Sharma’s abrupt departure in February, CAC is expected to appoint a top selector for Indian Men’s cricket team after Women’s team head coach selection. The interview date is likely to be July 1, and the application deadline is June 30.
