India batter Shreyas Iyer has revealed that India’s head coach Rahul Dravid was very tense throughout the second ODI against West Indies. After all, the game went down to the wire. After the first innings, the home team was on the top after scoring 311 runs. India was going well with 178/3 at one stage. However, two quick wickets and a lack of boundaries increased the required run rate to around 10.

However, the unbeaten half-century from Axar Patel and useful contributions from Deepak Hooda and Avesh Khan helped the team win the game. After the game, Iyer said that it was fun in the dressing even though Dravid was consistently passing the messages to the players. The right-hander believes that the players were calm as they have played a lot of games recently and also praised Patel’s innings.

“It was fun, to be honest. We were all sitting together, and Rahul (Dravid) sir was getting very tensed; he was consistently passing on the message,” Iyer said after the enthralling victory in the second ODI that helped India clinch the series with a game to spare.

“I think a lot of players showed really good emotions out there and were very calm and composed in the pressure situation. And since we have played so many matches lately, I think we have already seen all these emotions. It was just another game for us. I think we did pretty well, especially Axar, the way he finished off today. It was an outstanding knock,” he added.

Talking about the Mumbaikar’s contribution, he scored his second fifty of the series and stitched a partnership of 99 runs with Sanju Samson. The latter scored his maiden ODI fifty. The Kolkata skipper in the Indian T20 League was coming off a poor series against South Africa and England. Meanwhile, with the win, the Men In Blue have taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match series.
