Rahul Dravid decides on his next venture after refusing extension to Indian coach job

Team India are going through a phase of transition after ODI World Cup 2023 campaign.

The Indian Cricket Team is set to go through a transitional phase after the ODI World Cup 2023 ended. It is being reported that Rahul Dravid is in talks with an unnamed IPL side over a two-year contract.

The move comes after Rahul Dravid has told the Indian Cricket Board his desire to discontinue as the Indian coach. Former Indian batting stalwart and Rahul Dravid’s mate VVS Laxman is set to be announced as the next coach of the Indian team.

The 49-year-old will take charge of India during the T20 series against Australia set to begin on Thursday. Once the series ends the former India batter is set to sign on the dotted lines to become the next Indian full-time coach.

Rahul Dravid set for IPL return?

Outgoing Indian coach and former batting legend Rahul Dravid is set for a return to the IPL. One source while speaking to the Times of India said “He’s in talks with an IPL team for a big two-year contract”. It has come to light that the 50-year-old has told the Indian Cricket Board of his willingness to part ways and not renew the contract.

The Source in the know told TOI that “Dravid has communicated that he isn’t keen to continue as a full-time coach. For close to 20 years, he has travelled with the Indian team as a player. And for the last couple of years, he again went through the same grind, which he doesn’t want to undergo.”

As per the source, Rahul Dravid would be open to coaching the Indian team on a part-time basis if need be. The 50-year-old though wants to go back to the grassroots and work with the Indian Cricket Academy based in Bengaluru. The future of the Indian support staff though is still up in the air and depends on VVS Laxman the next likely Indian coach.

One Indian Cricket Board source said to the Times of India “VVS Laxman expressed his keenness for the job. During the World Cup, Laxman travelled to Ahmedabad to meet the top bosses in this regard. He’s likely to sign a long-time contract as the Team India coach, and will certainly travel with the team in that capacity for the upcoming tour of South Africa, which will be his first as the full-time India head coach”
