After years of struggle, the talented Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal has finally won his first international call-up for India’s approaching Test series versus the Windies in July. The 21-year-old batsman described his father’s response to his inclusion in India’s Test team.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s selection for the India team seemed inevitable, especially following his brilliant IPL 2023 season with the bat, during which he emerged as Rajasthan Royals’ top run-scorer. After being selected as Ruturaj Gaikwad’s replacement in the reserves during the World Test Championship Final, he had his first taste of life in the Indian camp.

Jaiswal disclosed his father’s emotional state after the news surfaced in the media, although he hasn’t seen his mother since being chosen for the Indian team. He remembered feeling anxious before the next Test series versus the West Indies lineup was revealed.
He said on News18 last week, “My father started crying (when he got to know). I have not yet met my mother; I am going to see her in some time. I was out from the morning, had a practice session as well as some other work. I’m feeling good, I will try to do my best. I am excited but at the same time I just want to go out and express myself. I was a little nervous, till the time you do not get to know that your name is there in the team, there are butterflies. But it is a good feeling.”
Yashasvi Jaiswal also spoke to the Times of India ahead of his selection for the Indian Test team. He discussed the topic of senior Mumbai batter and Team India captain Rohit Sharma and how he has learnt from him. He said, “Rohit Bhai is from Mumbai, I have played under him and learned a lot, he has lots of experience & played lots of match winning knocks for the country.”
