‘Proud Indian!’ – Fans react as Neeraj Chopra refused to sign on Indian flag, signs on fan’s sleeve instead
The Golden boy of Indian athletics events all over the world, Neeraj Chopra, won a Gold medal in the 2023 World Athletics Championships. Chopra broke the headlines with his historic Gold medal victory at the Budapest. The 25-year-old now has a Javelin cabinet with numerous medals.
This medal is crucial, as was the Olympic gold medal in Tokyo Games 2020. No Indian has won the Gold medal in this contest; he has a throw of 88.17 meters, which was set by him in the second attempt. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem also shined in the competition, as he threw 87.82 meters to bag the Siver medal. On the night of the final, Chopra was asked to sign an autograph for a Hungarian lady, which the Indian star denied because the lady asked to sign the Indian flag.
The situation unfolded in this way a Hungarian lady asked for an autograph on an Indian flay and Chopra replied, “Waha nahi kar sakta,”, After that, Chopra didn’t want to disappoint his fans so he put his autograph on her shirt sleeve. Fans on social media started hailing Chopra for this as they called him the ‘Army person’ and knew the code of conduct of the Indian flags. As per the law, putting an inscription on the national flag is considered as disrespect to the flag.

It is pertinent to mention that, along with Neeraj two Indians were also part of the men’s Javelin throw event, Kishore Jena with 84.77 metres and DP Manu with 84.14 meters finished fifth and sixth respectively, Before this, three Indians finished in the top eight of the event in World Championship.
In the men’s 4x400m relay race, Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Ajmal Variyathodi and Rajesh Ramesh quartet finished fifth in the event. Parul Chaudhary also broke the national record in the 3000-meter steeplechase as she finished 12th in this category.
