In the Duleep Trophy, Prithvi Shaw did not perform well, scoring 26 in the first inning and 25 in the second. For Shaw, it wasn’t the finest of games. West Zone and Central Zone’s game ended in a tie. West Zone advanced to the final, where they will play South Zone in Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Shaw in an interview opened up about his batting style and also about backing his strengths and batting in a way he prefers. Shaw did not have runs on his side in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) where he hit 106 runs in eight innings. He had an underwhelming average of 13.25 and a strike rate of 124.70. In the tournament, he registered just one-half century. Shaw talked about the mantra of “next game is the most important game”.

I cannot bat like Cheteshwar Pujara -Prithvi Shaw

“Those few innings (at the start of IPL 2023) went in a flash,” he said. “(While) I kept thinking about the first match, I quickly realised three matches had passed. The learning was once the match is done, just leave it there. You can’t do anything about it, it’s history. You have to keep moving forward, Shaw said. He burst into fame during the U-19 World Cup in 2018. He also scored a century on his Test debut at home against West Indies. The cricket experts at that point had called him a combination of Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara and Virendra Sehwag.

“I feel whatever has brought me till here, I will stick to that method, be the same. If I change right now for something, for example, I can’t bat like (Cheteshwar) Pujara sir. He can’t bat like me. I just try to do what has brought me here, everything god has given me, like this aggressive batting. I don’t like to change that, be it T20 or any format. The mindset is the same across formats, obviously, I won’t go slashing if I shouldn’t in red-ball cricket, but mindset is to be aggressive.” Shaw added.

Shaw has also joined Northamptonshire, where he competes in both the Royal London One Day Cup and County Cricket in England. Shaw is a member of a prestigious team that has produced players like Bishan Singh Bedi and Anil Kumble. Shaw will want to return to the action as soon as possible and return to the Indian side.
