Portugal and Uruguay locked horns in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 hosted by Qatar in the Group H match and as one could expect, it was the former who managed to defeat Uruguay on the back of a brilliant brace from Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes.

However, the first goal in the 54th minute became a case of controversy as fans claimed it was Cristiano Ronaldo who scored it with a header. On the other hand, the goal was ruled in favour of Fernandes, who kicked it from the edge of the 18-yard box and it remained a question if Ronaldo had contact with the ball, with his head.

While Fernandes produced yet another goal in the extra time post the 90-minute mark capitalising on a penalty, the first goal, however, was a controversial one as fans claimed that it was Ronaldo who had contact with the ball making use of the assist from Fernandes.

Portugal to submit evidence on first goal

As things stand, there are reports claiming that the Portuguese Federation might as well submit evidence claiming that it was Ronaldo who scored the goal and not the other way around. While many fans opined that the team must move on from the game, Ronaldo’s fans claimed that it was necessary to credit the actual goal scorer.

Notably, a photo emerged after the game, from the exact moment, Ronaldo looked like he was in contact with the ball and adding to the claims that it was him who scored it with his header and it did not go all the way past the goalkeeper on the back of Fernandes’ kick.

It remains to be seen if FIFA would address the issue at the earliest and give a clarification on the same. While many were etched to crediting the goal scorer, a few of them pointed out that things were all good between the ousted Red Devils player and Fernandes, given that the legendary player accused a few unnamed players of not wanting him in the club.
