It was a bit of disappointment for the cricket fans who were eagerly waiting for the inaugural match of the SA20 2024. The tournament opener was scheduled to be played between the defending champions, Sunrisers Easter Cape and the last edition’s semi-finalists Joburg Super Kings at St. George’s Park in Gqeberha on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

The fans were left dejected after the rain played a spoilsport and the match got abandoned without a ball being bowled. Even, the rain didn’t let the toss be a possible thing in Gqeberha.

After the match got abandoned and ended without any result, both teams shared two points each and are currently the table toppers. Notably, Aiden Markram’s Sunrisers Easter Cape were looking ahead to start their winning campaign as they entered the second edition of the tournament with the tag of reigning champions.

On the other hand, Joburg Super Kings under the captaincy of former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis, were also eyeing to starting their winning run in the tournament. But the wishes of both the teams were washed off by the heavy rain in Gqeberha.

Apart from all this, the second edition of the tournament has also the inclusion of a new rule in which both the captains have to be ready with both of their their bat-first XI and bowl-first XI at the time of toss and will have to present it after the toss.
