India and New Zealand locked horns in the second ODI at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur. India won the toss and chose to bowl first. The Indian bowlers were all over the Kiwi batters, consequently picking up five wickets within 11 overs. The bowlers were spot-on with their line and length straightaway and also used the ground dimensions to their advantage.
Finn Allen was the first to depart with a five-ball duck and he was castled by Mohammed Shami. Henry Nicholls fell for Mohammed Siraj when the catch was taken by Shubman Gill at slip. Daryl Mitchell was dismissed by Mohammed Shami with a fantastic catch of his own bowling. Devon Conway was then shown the door by Hardik Pandya with an electrifying caught and bowled.
Then Tom Latham was dismissed by Shardul Thakur and the catch was taken by Gill which was his second. A lazy shot from Latham cost him his wicket. Latham was back to the hut. The Kiwis were reeling at 15-5. Michael Bracewell played some shots in his short innings of 22 of 30 but he was dismissed by Shami and there were no heroics from him. The score was 56-6 when Bracewell was dismissed.
Glenn Philips and Mitchell Santner tried to take the attack to the Indian bowlers and play some shots, but Philips was dismissed when he tried to hit a half-tracker from Washington Sundar into the stands but, it went into the deep and the catch was taken by Suryakumar Yadav.
Santner departed soon after when he inside edged a slower ball off Pandya, the tail was swept away afterwards, and New Zealand were all out for 108 in just 34.3 overs.
The target of 108 was not going to trouble India, Rohit Sharma and Gill opened the innings, and the skipper scored 51 off 50 balls with seven fours and two sixes. Gill continued where he left off from the double hundred at Hyderabad and made 40 off 53 balls with six fours. Virat Kohli hit two boundaries and made 11 off 9 balls but was dismissed by Santner yet again. Ishan Kishan came in and made 8 off 8 balls with two fours. Gill hit the winning boundary for India and the Men in Blue won by 8 wickets.

Shubman Gill is showing a lot of intent to stay till the end and see the team over the line. Showed it in the last match as well. Another reason why he should be preferred over Ishan in the WC.#NZvsIND #IndvsNZ2ndODI
