Shikha Pandey, a fast bowler for the Indian women’s team, has hit back at fans following criticism for her remark on Mohammed Siraj and Philip Salt’s fight during the match between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2023 last Saturday.

In a 182-run chase, Delhi defeated Bangalore by seven wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. During the match, Mohammed Siraj bowled a short ball to opener Philip Salt during the Capitals’ fifth over. Salt checked with the square leg umpire about a possible wide ball, but the appeal was denied.

Salt then smiled and said something to Siraj, which irritated the RCB pacer. After a few words were exchanged between the two, Capitals captain David Warner was forced to intervene. Siraj was seen pointing to Warner to ask that his batting partner remain quiet. The on-field umpires and Faf du Plessis eventually separated the two.

Cricket fans had mixed feelings about the Siraj-Salt spat. During the game, Shikha Pandey Tweeted about the incident without naming any of the players. She wrote: “Swearing won’t help anyone win any games! #JustSaying”.

I’ve always been in awe of Mohammed Siraj’s bowling: Shikha Pandey

Many fans were unimpressed with the women’s team pacer’s remark and poured abuse on her. Some of them also left abusive comments to express their rage. Shikha Pandey took to Twitter a few days later to give her side of the story.

“I’ve always been in awe of Mohammed Siraj’s bowling. What he has achieved in his career thus far is incredible, inspiring & incomparable,” she wrote. “So folks trying really hard to make it appear as if I implied something else please take your conversations elsewhere.”

“Also, if you think hurling abuse on my TL or someone else’s helps you get your point across pls continue to do so. I can speak for myself, it does NOT,” she added. Shikha Pandey represented Delhi Capitals in the first Women’s Premier League 2023. Pandey was the Capitals’ highest wicket-taker, with 10 wickets in nine matches at an economy rate of 6.59.
