‘Phir se haar gaaye’ – Fans react as GT annihilate LSG at Ahmedabad in IPL 2023
The Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants locked horns with each other at Ahmedabad. LSG won the toss and elected to bowl first. It was a haemorrhage of runs as the batters from GT did not allow the bowlers to settle. The Openers Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill tore the LSG bowlers to smithereens. Saha smashed the fastest IPL fifty in 2023 of just 20 balls. It was belligerent hitting from the former India wicketkeeper.
Saha’s stay was cut short when he was caught by Prerak Mankad off Avesh Khan for 81 off 43 balls with 10 fours and four sixes. Gill, on the other end, was just as destructive. The right-hander made an unbeaten 94 off 51 balls with two fours and seven sixes. Hardik Pandya made 25 off 15 balls with one four and two sixes. David Miller provided great company for Gill at the end and made an unbeaten quickfire 21 off 12 balls with two fours and one six. GT finished off with a monstrous total of 227-2 in their 20 overs.
Mohit Sharma picked up a four-wicket haul for Gujarat Titans
In the second innings, Kyle Mayers made a strong start with 48 off 32 balls with seven fours and two sixes. His stay was cut short when he was caught by Rashid Khan off Mohit Sharma. Quinton de Kock donned the gloves for LSG in this game. He made a fine start to the 2023 IPL with a wonderful 70 off 41 balls with seven fours and three sixes.
The South African was bowled by Rashid Khan. Barring these two performances at the top of the order, the rest of the batting lineup did not step up. The LSG batters already had to deal with a lot of scoreboard pressure. Mohit impressed once again and unleashed his bag of tricks on LSG. He picked up 4-29 in his four overs. His wonderful spell of bowling put LSG on the mat. Shami, Rashid and Noor Ahmad all picked up a wicket each in their quota of four overs.
This is an absolute hammering the LSG has received in the hands of GT. They won by 56 runs and proved that they are one of the toughest teams to beat in the IPL. Different match winners have stepped up for them and different times and this has ensured a series of wins for them.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:
