The ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test series is coming to its business end, with the final game happening at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Moving into the game, India led the 4-Test series 2-1, having won in Nagpur and Delhi. They are coming off a comprehensive defeat in the third Test in Indore.

Day 1 of the fourth Test hung in the balance as Australia closed out the day at 255/4 at the end of 90 overs. Australia decided to bat first after winning the toss, which India PM Narendra Modi did not conduct as few reports suggested on Wednesday. The visitors started steadily, with openers Travis Head and Usman Khawaja adding 61 runs for the opening partnership. Head was the first one to fall at a score of 32 off 44.

Usman Khawaja remained the star of the day with a century

On the other hand, Usman Khawaja went on to score a century, the second one in the series, after skipper Rohit Sharma’s heroic knock in Nagpur. Khawaja remained unbeaten at 104 off 251, while Cameron Green is closing on his fifty, batting at 49* off 64 deliveries. Captain Steve Smith added 38 runs but failed to convert his start into a big one.

For India, Mohammed Shami remained the pick of the bowlers with two scalps for 65 runs from his 17 overs. Spin twins Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin returned with one scalp apiece. The hosts will have a lot of work to do on Day 2.

Notably, the final Test is crucial for both sides. While India will chase a spot in the finals of the Test Championship for the 2021-23 cycle, Australia will look to avoid defeat in the Test series. If India manages to draw the final game, they will win three back-to-back Test against the Kangaroos, having won the last two BGT Test series in Australia.

So we got a flat wicket here in Ahmedabad, overcompensation for the sins of last 3 pitches but i would take this wicket anyday instead of indore wicket ❤️
