After getting defeated against the current champions Australia in the last year’s T20 World Cup, Pakistan will look to win the trophy this time later this year in Australia. On 25th June 2022, Saturday, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja announced that Pakistan will play a tri-series in New Zealand ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022.

The Team is expected to leave for New Zealand on the 4th of October. Both Bangladesh and New Zealand will also participate in this tournament. This series can be great preparation for all of these teams.

I wanted my team to play a few matches more or less in Australian environments: Ramiz Raja

Speaking to a group of reporters, Ramiz Raza said that he wants his team to play some more or fewer matches in Australia for players to get used to that environment.

He said: “After receiving confirmation dates from the touring England side that is due here in Pakistan on September 15, we have confirmed our participation in the tri-nation series to be hosted by Cricket New Zealand. I wanted my team to play a few internationals more or less amid Australian environments, ahead of the World Cup. Now the team will be having a good opportunity to test their combination and leading players’ form during the tri-nation series in New Zealand,”

Ramiz Raja also said that he will hire former Australian batter Matthew Hayden for preparing the team for the World Cup. This former Australian batter will join the squad ahead of that tri-series in New Zealand. On the other hand, former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq will continue his tenure as the team head coach till the completion of his contract.

“Saqlain will be there as head coach till the completion of one year. He possibly would not be in a position to continue following a one-year stint more due to his domestic engagements and priorities,” Ramiz concluded.

Pakistan’s next assignment is in Sri Lanka where they are scheduled to play two Test matches, starting on 16 July 2022.
