‘Pakistan-Netherlands Dosti Zindabad’- Twitter shocked as the Netherlands knock South Africa out of the 20-20 World Cup 2022
The 20-20 World Cup witnessed another upset as the Netherlands pulled off a sensational 13-run win over South Africa on Sunday. With that win, they have knocked South Africa out of the competition as well. Chasing a 158-run total, South Africa crumbled under pressure and fell 13 runs short of the target. Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma looked to get a good start but both failed to convert their innings into big scores.
By the end of the first six overs, both Bavuma (20) and de Kock (13) departed for the score of 39 runs on the board. R Rossouw was looking good as he had managed to struck two fours en-route to an 19-ball 25 before Glover accounted for the his wicket in the 10th over.
South Africa had lost three wickets in the first half of the innings but still had firepower in the batting unit. However, none of the batter could stay till the end and produce a big knock for the team. Wickets kept falling in regular intervals and South Africa couldn’t stitch a big partnership.
They were in a decent position, having managed 112 runs in 15 overs with Parnell and Miller at the crease. But Brandon Glover then took both their wickets in the 16th over to turn the game completely in the Netherlands’ favour.
Earlier, South Africa couldn’t make a great start with the ball either. Valuable contributions from Myburgh (37) and Max ODowd (29) meant Netherlands made a pretty good start.
However, it was Tom Cooper and Ackermann who upped the ante as the two went all guns blazing with the bat. Cooper played a sensational knock of 35 runs in 19 balls, while Ackermann smashed 41 runs in just 26 balls. He stayed unbeaten till the end and helped the team reach a competitive 158-run total at the end of the first innings. As it stands, South Africa are out of the race for the semi-finals.
