Mohammad Yousuf is currently the batting coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team. He himself was considered a pretty solid batter during his playing days. Yousuf was known for his patience and perseverance in the middle. His opponents have often praised the way he used to rotate the strike while batting.
In a recent video released by the PCB, Yousuf was heard giving his opinion about the current Pakistani batting unit. He praised the openers Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq and stated that their presence at the top sets the platform for the team to reach a formidable total.
“In modern-day ODI cricket, 350 is a par score and considering that our openers plan the innings in a superb manner. Ideally, we need to score 70 runs in the first ten overs and mostly our players have done that,”- said Yousuf.
He also boasted about the Pakistani middle-order saying- “We have a great combination in the middle order, such as Khushdil Shah, who can rotate strike while also playing big shots.”
Yousuf particularly praised the Pakistani skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. “Babar is a world-class player. He hits a boundary whenever there is an opportunity while also continuing to rotate the strike. Meanwhile, Rizwan has also done really well during the last couple of years. He always keeps the opposing team under pressure with his quick running between the wickets,”- added Yousuf.
The Pakistan team will be next seen in action against the West Indies side in a three-match ODI series scheduled to begin on June 8 in Multan. The training camp for the team has concluded on 4th June and the squad has moved to Multan the next day. The West Indies team will be reaching Islamabad on 6th June, from where they will travel to Multan in a charter flight.
