Australia vs Pakistan 2023-24

Pakistan Cricket Team’s luggage loading incident misunderstood, Shaheen Shah Afridi clarifies

The upcoming series will be an extremely tough one for the visitors.

Australia and Pakistan are gearing up for a captivating three-match Test series, set to commence on December 14 at the Perth Stadium. The series will move to the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground for the second Test before the Final game is played at the Sydney Cricket Ground, another stadium which has rich history.

The Test series promises to be an exciting spectacle, marking not only Shan Masood’s debut as Pakistan’s Test captain but also the end of David Warner’s illustrious Test career.

However, ahead of the series, there was a controversy as the Pakistani cricket team’s recent arrival in Australia was marred by an unfortunate incident. A video surfaced on social media which shows members of the Pakistan team, including prominent players like Muhammad Rizwan and Mohammad Wasim Jr., personally loading their luggage onto a truck at the airport.

The video quickly went viral, with fans expressing disappointment and frustration at the apparent lack of hospitality which they extended to the Pakistani team, who were essentially guests in Australia. Critics pointed out that such a treatment was unbecoming of both the Pakistan Cricket Board and Cricket Australia, and that the players deserved better. The incident raised questions about the level of coordination and professionalism between the two cricket boards, as well as the overall arrangements made for the Pakistani team’s arrival and stay in Australia.

Shaheen Shah Afridi provides clarity

However, a day after the incident, there is some clarification on the incident. Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has said that time constraints and limited resources were the primary reasons for the team’s actions. According to the him, the team had to catch a connecting flight within half an hour, and there were only two luggage handlers available to assist them. He further explained that the team members volunteered to help with the loading process to expedite the departure.

“We only had 30 minutes to catch our next flight and we helped because there were just two people. We wanted to wrap it up fast and to save time. We call this team a family and helped them as a family,” he said.
