โOye ek match tho jeetke aaoโ -Fans furious as Bangalore lose their third WTL game on the trot to Gujarat
The 6th match of the Womenโs T20 League kicked off between Gujarat and Bengaluru. Gujarat won the toss and chose to bat. Gujarat lost the wicket of Sabbhineni Meghna early, who scored 8 off 11 balls with two fours. But from thereon, it was all Gujarat as Sophia Dunkley made the fastest fifty in WTL. The England batter played a stroke-filled innings of 65 off 28 balls, with 11 fours and three sixes.
Harleen Deol played the anchor role for Gujarat as she made 67 off 45 balls, with nine fours and one six. These dynamic contributions with the bat helped Gujarat get to an eye-catching total of 201-7 in their 20 overs. Gujarat were unlucky in their previous fixture when they lost a close game to UP. With a big total on the board, they were looking to get their first points in the WTL.
Sophie Ecclestone scored the fastest 50 off 18 balls for Gujarat in the WTL
While the experienced buys have not set the tournament on fire for Bangalore so far, the youngsters have punched above their weight. Shreyanka Patil picked up 2-32 in her four overs. Heather Knight picked up 2-17 from her two overs spell. These players starred with the ball for Bangalore. In the second innings, Bangalore got off to a quickfire start, with Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine playing a few good strokes. Mandhana, however, was the first one to be dismissed by Ashleigh Gardner after scoring 18 off 14 balls, with three fours when the score was 54.
Elysee Perry tried to move the scoring rate at No 3 but was picked up by Mansi Joshi after she made 32 off 25 balls, with five fours. Devine was in prime form as she made 66 off 45 balls, with eight fours and two sixes. She kept Bangalore in the hunt but, a lone effort was not going to be enough as she was dismissed by Annabel Sutherland when the score was 141-4.
Since the boundaries are slightly smaller than normal in WTL, this has resulted in high-scoring games. Bangalore were always behind the rate chasing a big total. Heather Knight scored 30 off 11 balls, with five fours and one six. Some late hitting meant Bangalore tried hard but lost by 11 runs.
