On Thursday, November 2, all eyes will be on Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium as India and Sri Lanka gear up to clash in the ODI World Cup 2023. The match is scheduled for 2:00 pm IST.

Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, has been grappling with poor air quality in recent weeks, prompting the Cricket Board of India to take notice of the situation. Indian Cricket Board secretary, Jay Shah, announced that customary fireworks after the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 matches will not be on display at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi due to the concerning air quality in these cities. The Board’s commitment to combating environmental issues and prioritizing the well-being of fans and stakeholders was underscored by Shah.

Team India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, also expressed his concerns about the air quality in Mumbai, both on his Instagram account and during a pre-match press conference. On Thursday morning, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Mumbai stood at 158, classified as a ‘very unhealthy’ level.

Rohit Sharma remarked on the air quality, saying, “I mean, in an ideal world, you don’t want a situation like this, but I’m pretty sure the concerned people are taking the necessary steps to avoid these kinds of situations. It’s not ideal, everyone knows that. But obviously, looking at our future generation, your kids, my kids it’s quite important that they get to live without any fear. So, yeah, every time I get to speak outside of cricket, if we are not discussing cricket, I always talk about this, that we have to look after our future generation.”

India vs. Sri Lanka: Mumbai’s weather conditions for World Cup encounter!

India, in remarkable form, has triumphed in all six of its matches in the current competition. Indian pacers displayed their elite abilities as India defeated England by 100 runs in their most recent encounter. On the other hand, Sri Lanka, currently seventh in the points standings, lost their last game to Afghanistan by seven wickets, having won only two of their six games.

As for the weather in Mumbai, it is going to be another hot and humid day for the match on Thursday. The temperature is expected to be around 37 degrees Celsius at the time of the toss, approximately 1:30 pm IST. The humidity is forecasted to be around 33 per cent.

By evening, the temperature should drop to around 30 degrees, but the humidity is expected to rise to 53 per cent. Although there may be some cloud cover over the ground, there is unlikely to be any chance of rain interrupting the match.

However, it is important to note that the poor air quality conditions may pose a challenge for the cricketers in the middle at the Wankhede Stadium.
