‘Now it is vanishing again’ -Fans react as Ishant Sharma talks about Virat Kohli bringing fitness culture into the Indian Team
The Indian Test team is all set for a fresh start as they will face the West Indies in July and play two Test matches there. When Virat Kohli led India, there was a fitness revolution that took place inside the Indian Team which resulted in big wins at home. Also, they beat Australia twice at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2018 and 2021. In the same year, they also drew a Test series with England.
Ishant Sharma spoke about the fitness culture brought in by Kohli in an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia. “Virat Kohli brought fitness culture in the Indian team when he became captain. You can see the difference now between fast bowlers, it’s huge”. Ishant said in the interview on Ranveer’s youtube channel. There was a lot of emphasis on fitness and diet when Kohli was at the helm, which increased the endurance levels of the Indian Cricket Team, and they could ball longer spells with higher intensity.
Virat was partying the night before but scored 250 in an under-19 game the next day- Ishant Sharma
In the same interview, Ishant spoke about Kohli’s most challenging phase when he lost his father and the former India captain’s transformation. “The day Virat Kohli’s father passed away, he was alone & sad, didn’t know how to react, but then he batted & won the game when he was just 17 years – till today I don’t understand how, if that happens to me, I would not have been gone to ground,” Ishant said.
“I have seen all his phases. From party to tattoo, fitness freak to top performer, he has made a massive transformation in his career. He was fond of parties, and during a tournament in Kolkata, he went partying the whole night but scored 250 the next day. He was unbeaten the previous day, and we were representing Delhi in U-19 cricket,” Ishant added. Kohli has changed tremendously to maintain a chiselled physique over the years.
As for Kohli, he last played the World Test Championship (WTC) final at the Oval, where India lost to Australia by 209 runs. He is presently on a break and will resume duties in the upcoming West Indies tour, which will commence with the Test series and then be followed by the One-Dayers and T20Is.
