Not Travis Head- Michael Vaughan picks World Cup Final ‘star’
The cricketing world is still reeling from the conclusion of the enthralling ODI World Cup. The tournament captivated fans worldwide with its captivating matches and nail-biting moments. After a month and a half of exhilarating cricket, Australia emerged triumphant, extending their record to six World Cup titles.
On Sunday, November 19, the world held its breath as cricket giants Australia and India faced off in the electrifying final of the ODI World Cup at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Amidst a sea of passionate Indian supporters, Australia emerged triumphant, defying all odds to claim their sixth World Cup title.
Despite a promising start from captain Rohit Sharma and half-centuries from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, India’s batting faltered, leaving them with a modest total of 239 runs in the ODI World Cup final. In response, Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head forged a formidable partnership, scoring a combined 192 runs, guiding Australia to a comfortable victory and their sixth World Cup title.
“My star has to be Richard Kettleborough, the umpire”
In a recent episode of the podcast “Club Prairie Fire,” former England captain Michael Vaughan declared umpire Richard Kettleborough as his pick for the star of the Finale.
“Travis Head was obviously a key candidate. Pat Cummins, for me, his captaincy was remarkable, that mid-play when he changed the bowler every over to not let KL Rahul and Virat Kohli settle, and then he came on and got Virat Kohli out. My star has to be Richard Kettleborough, the umpire, he has to be. He had a great game. If his finger would have gone up…,” Vaughan said.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan was attentive to a crucial umpiring decision that occurred during game involving Marnus Labuschagne and Jasprit Bumrah. During the chase, Labuschagne was given not out off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling. India went for the review, but it was umpire’s call and thus, the decision stayed as it was on-field.
