‘No one in IPL will get his own credit until Thala retires’- Fans react as Tushar Deshpande talks about MS Dhoni’s leadership in IPL 2023
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) tasted glory yet again as they emerged as Indian Premier League (IPL) champions for the fifth time. The MS Dhoni-led side are now level with Mumbai Indians (MI) when it comes to most titles in the league. One of the contributors to CSK’s successful campaign was Tushar Deshpande. The Mumbai pacer picked up 21 wickets in 16 games at an economy rate of 9.92.
But the road for him was like a rusty wheel at the start of the season. He was struggling to get in gear. “Once I didn’t bowl well, he came and said that with the new impact rule, 200 plus score is the new normal and he told me don’t worry about my place. He gave the surety which is what (young) players want,” Deshpande told the Indian Express. Deshpande and MS Dhoni communicated with a lot of gestures that gave indications to Deshpande to understand whether he was bowling well or not.

“You know you have someone who will guide and show the light when things are not going in our favour. He is a selfless guy and keeps things simple. He doesn’t complicate things and will be with you in your bad times. Like a soldier, I will just follow whatever he says. I know he can never take me on a wrong path,” The CSK pacer added.
Deshpande talked about the inner mind of MS Dhoni and then said how clear he is when it comes to planning. “His (Dhoni) plans are very clear ke yeh yeh karna hai (what needs to be done), and then one has to execute. He will give freedom as well and when needed he will put a word. He told me that I have everything to play at the top, just be calm, take a deep breath. Keeping mind- shaant is the key (keep the mind calm),” the Mumbaikar added.
CSK fought it out in a cliffhanger of a game at the Narendra Modi Stadium and won. The legend of MS Dhoni will be more glittering as the CSK skipper added yet another feather to his cap. IPL 2023 will be forever remembered for the MS Dhoni phenomenon.
