New film announcement – Karan Johar announces film with Kartik Aaryan and Ektaa Kapoor
Karan Johar and Kartik Aaryan appear to have resolved their long-rumoured feud. KJo took to social media today, November 22, to announce a new film starring Kartik Aaryan. The film will be co-produced by the filmmaker’s Dharma Productions and Ektaa Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms. Sandeep Modi is directing the upcoming film, which will be released on August 15, 2025. Kartik Aaryan’s 33rd birthday was the occasion for the big announcement.
Karan Johar wrote on Instagram, “Dharma Productions and Balaji Telefilms Ltd. present A Dharma Productions film starring Kartik Aaryan. Sandeep Modi directed the film. Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Shobha Kapoor, and Ektaa R. Kapoor produced the film. In theaters on August 15, 2025 (sic).”

KJo captioned the post, “Kicking off today with some special news on a special day!!. We are thrilled to announce that @dharmamovies and @balajimotionpictures will collaborate on a film directed by the incredibly talented @sandeipm. I’m also thrilled to announce the supremely talented @kartikaaryan as our lead for this story, which will be released in theatres on August 15, 2025 (sic).”
KJo also wished Kartik a happy birthday, writing, “Kartik, happy birthday to you. May our collaboration continue to grow in strength and never cease to create magic on the big screen. Being your friend is by far the best thing, and now working with you will be no different (sic)!!!”
For those who are unaware, Karan announced in 2021 that they will recast ‘Dostana 2’ after announcing and filming certain scenes with Kartik. Karan stated that they would recast due to “professional circumstances.” Rumours circulated that Karan made the decision due to the main lead’s “unprofessional behaviour” on set.
Kartik was originally cast as the lead in Colin D’Cunha’s romantic comedy Dostana 2, the sequel to Tarun Mansukhani’s 2008 blockbuster Dostana, which starred Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, and Priyanka Chopra. Dharma Productions produced Dostana 2, which starred Janhvi Kapoor and newcomer Lakshya. However, due to a conflict on the set, Dostana 2 was cancelled. While Kartik and Karan remained silent, Dharma stated that the film would be recast and reshot.
