NBA star Kevin Durant’s unwavering advocacy for marijuana leads to policy change and investment in cannabis industry
Kevin Durant plays for the Phoenix Suns in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Durant has won two NBA Championships and also the most valuable player award four NBA score titles and also the NBA Rookie of the Year. Durant also made it to the NBA 75th anniversary team in 2021. He is also a member of the US National team. While he is a superstar on the field he continues his strong views with regard to marijuana use in the NBA.
Durant has recently marked his presence at an event which took place in Los Angeles. The sponsors of the event were CNBC and the Boardroom. When he was on the road to recovery for an Achilles injury three years ago Durant was moving the wheels in motion and stood for the use of marijuana. He proposed to the NBA that they take out weed from the list of banned substances. The Phoenix Suns star also talked about how the meeting between him and Adam Silver transpired.
It is like wine at this point – Adam Silver on marijuana to Kevin Durant
“Well, he smelled it when I walked in. So I didn’t really have to say much, you know what I’m saying? He kind of understood where this was going…It’s the NBA, man… everybody does it, to be honest. It’s like wine at this point.” Durant said. Durant said that he likes to use the plant. The fact that he was vouching for it along with the strong stand of others might have led to the coming of the new collective bargaining agreement between the NBA and the NBPA has no longer rendered weed illegal.
Durant has shown that he is very positive about marijuana and its usage. The fact that he has been doing a lot of work by investing in marijuana-related companies over the last few years further solidifies where he stands on the issue of the plant and its usage. Durant in an interview with David Letterman famously stated that he was ‘high’ when asked about the consumption of weed.
