Chandika Hathurusingha head of coach Bangladesh has compared Bangladesh Premier League to circus. The Bangladesh Premier League 2024 is underway and Rangpur Riders are the table toppers so far.

In an interview, ESPNcricinfo Hathurusingha stated that Bangladesh does not have a real T20 tournament and that he occasionally turns off the television when watching the BPL. The Bangladesh franchise competition has been present since 2012, but it has not grown in the same way as the Indian Premier League and Pakistan Super League have.

Bangladesh doesn’t have a proper T20 event. This sounds pretty strange. When I’m watching the BPL, I occasionally turn off the television. Some players aren’t even in the [necessary] class. Hathurusingha expressed serious concerns about the current system.

He went on to claim that the BPL is like a circus, and he has lost interest in the league. Fortune Barishal, Chattogram Challengers, Rangpur Riders, and Comilla Victorians have qualified for the 2024 BPL playoffs, which will begin on February 26.

Where will we learn these things otherwise? – Chandika Hathurusingha

The Cricket Governing Body needs to step in. There must be some regulations. A player competes in one tournament before moving on to another. It’s like a circus. Players will discuss opportunities, but that is not appropriate. Individuals will lose interest. “I’ve lost interest,” Hathurusingha continued.

Furthermore, he added to have another tournament ahead of the BPL which will help players to grow in the role that the national team needs.

“We need to have a tournament where our players can do things like batting in the top three. Bangladesh bowlers are bowling in the death. Where will we learn these things otherwise? We have only one tournament,” said Hathurusingha.

“My suggestion is that we have another tournament before the BPL. The franchises do what they want. Some of the best players are not playing. Then how do you expect the Bangladesh team to be up with the other teams? I am fighting a steep battle,” Hathurusingha added.
