‘Mumbai ka pehla game trial game hota hai’ – Fans react as Bangalore hammer Mumbai by 8 wickets in the Indian T20 League 2023

In the fifth game of the 16th season of the Indian T20 League, Mumbai took on Bangalore at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. The captain of the home team, Faf Du Plessis, decided to bat first after winning the toss. It was a wise choice to begin with because Mumbai had terrible powerplay and lost key players like Ishan Kishan, Cameron Green, and captain Rohit Sharma. With over half of the inning left, they appeared to be in serious danger as their key players were already inside their pavilion.

Rebuilding the game fell to the inexperienced Tilak Verma as well as the seasoned batter Suryakumar Yadav. Tilak displayed class, but Suryakumar Yadav’s innings ended early as he was bowled by Michael Bracewell’s bowling and caught by Shahbaz Ahmed two overs following the powerplay. 

Mumbai kept losing wickets, but Tilak Varma was the star for the visitors as he scored 84* and stayed till the end of the innings to take his side to a respectable total of 171 after 20 overs. Due to the absence of the dependable Jasprit Bumrah for the first time, Mumbai’s bowling lineup will also be put under strain. 

Taking a look at Bangalore’s chase against Mumbai in the Indian T20 League 2023

Bangalore openers, Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli started off on the right note, unlike the opposition, and were able to score freely. They didn’t let Mumbai have any control with the ball and were scoring runs with ease.

The duo completed their fifties and were able to toy with almost all the Mumbai bowlers. The fielding by the Mumbai players also did their bowlers no justice as we saw some poor fielding and two dropped chances as well. Ishan Kishan missed one early on in the innings, while Hrithik Shokeen missed a chance later on in the innings.

Arshad Khan got the opening wicket in the 15th over, but by then the duo had already stamped authority over the match. Cameron Green then scalped the wicket of Dinesh Karthik, who got a promotion in the batting lineup. The match was already out of Mumbai’s hands and that was confirmed by Indian team superstar Virat Kohli. He remained not out and finished the match to get his team off to a winning start in the Indian T20 League 2023
