In what was fantastic news for Indian fans, Sarfaraz Khan finally donned the coveted whites for India in the ongoing 3rd Test against England. The wait had been long, his talent undeniable, and the expectations sky-high. Sarfaraz made sure that he didn’t disappoint his ardent supporters

Walking in at 237-4, Sarfaraz exuded calmness akin to that of a seasoned player. He started cautiously, respecting the English attack. But once settled, his natural flair blossomed. Powerful drives, elegant flicks, and an audacious six, Sarfaraz showcased his vast repertoire, enthralling the crowd. Much to his agony, the innings was cut short as a mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja led to a run-out at 62, leaving a bittersweet taste. Yet, the impact was undeniable. His 66-ball blitz had infused momentum and announced the arrival of a special talent.

His maiden innings was a captivating chapter that has got fans and pundits interested. His ability to dominate spinners and pace alike has ignited excitement. The world waits to see if he can write more chapters like this one, etching his name permanently in the annals of Indian cricket history.

Gratitude on the back!

After his successful debut, fans were quite interested to know why Sarfaraz chose the number 97 for his jersey. It turns out that the number isn’t just a random pick. It carries a deeply personal message, a tribute to the man who shaped his cricketing journey- his father, Naushad Khan. Recently, the story behind this heartfelt choice was revealed, adding another layer to the young batsman’s already inspiring narrative.

The number 97 holds a phonetic connection to Naushad’s name. In Hindi and Urdu, “nau” stands for nine and “saat” for seven. Combining them gets “Nausat,” a close match to “Naushad.” Wearing 97 is, therefore, Sarfaraz’s way of expressing gratitude and acknowledging the sacrifices and unwavering support his father has provided. Interestingly, Musheer Khan, Sarfaraz’s brother, who recently featured in the U-19 World Cup, also dons the same number on his back.

Naushad made this revelation while speaking to Aaj Tak recently. “I am playing Test cricket through him. He wears my name on his back 9 and 7, which is Nau-Saat, my name– Naushad. I am happy as both coach and father,” he said.
