‘Moment of the day’ – Fans react as Sachin Tendulkar hugs Virat Kohli after latter surpasses his record of most ODI hundreds

Virat Kohli scored his 50th ODI hundred against New Zealand.

Virat Kohli scripted history in Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The star batter scored his 50th ODI hundred to script history. The Indian batter became the first-ever batter to score 50 hundreds in ODIs. Virat surpassed Sachin Tendulkar in the aspect, who had 49 hundreds to his name in ODIs. Virat also broke the record for most runs in a single edition of the ODI World Cup.

Virat currently has 711 runs to his name in 10 innings, which is the highest for a batter in a single edition of the World Cup. Even in that regard, Virat surpassed Tendulkar to set a new record. Virat broke many records in the match and got himself a hundred in the Knockout stage of the tournament. The knock of Virat helped India to post a mammoth total of 397 runs on the board.

As Virat scored the third hundred of the tournament, he took a bow to Sachin, who was in the stands. Along with that, Virat gave a flying kiss to his wife. Fans stood up and applauded the achievement of Virat. The atmosphere in Wankhede stadium was electric, as fans witnessed history unfold in front of their eyes. There were chants of “Kohli..Kohli..” all around.

Sachin Tendulkar hugs Virat Kohli

After the first innings, Sachin Tendulkar went up to Virat, hugged him and congratulated him for surpassing the record. The image went viral on the internet. After that moment, Sachin spoke to the broadcasters about the knock of Virat and his relationship with the Indian batter in the past. Sachin praised the calibre of Virat and felt happy for his achievements in the recent past.

“I still remember the day when Virat Kohli was new, and teammates pranked him and said to touch my feet to have a wonderful career. To see him grow like the player he is currently is just beautiful, I’m so happy for him,” said Tendulkar. Virat and Tendulkar played together for India in the ODI World Cup 2011. India won the tournament, which was memorable for Tendulkar.
