Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc found himself again involved in a non-striker run out as he warned Sri Lanka batter, Dhananjaya de Silva, for leaving the crease early. This happened when the Kangaroos faced the Lankan Lions in a 20-20 World Cup Super 12 encounter on October 25th.

Starc issued more than one warning to de Silva after he backed out early during his partnership at the top with Pathum Nissanka. The incident happened in the 5th over when Starc had warned Dananjaya twice in the fifth over, but he did not attempt the run out at the non-striker’s end.

Starc was not done yet as at the end of the over he continued to chat with Dhananjaya as the incident unfolded at the New Perth Stadium. Starc was making the new ball talk as the Lankan duo of Nissanka, and Dhananjaya were not able to get off the blocks quickly after they lost Kusal Mendis initially.

Starc was recently involved in a runout with Jos Buttler in a T20I against England

Starc and non-striker run-outs have seemed to form a recent love affair as recently Starc was at the centre of a run-out controversy involving him and Jos Buttler in a 20-20 Match that was played in October. He claimed that Buttler had left the crease early, and the England skipper promptly denied the allegation, but Starc kept going at him.

The Aussie pacer copped a lot of flak for making the Deepti Sharma reference to the run-out. He was caught on camera saying, “I am not Deepti, but I might do it. Doesn’t mean you can leave your crease early.”

The Deepti reference was made by Starc as India’s all-rounder ran out Charlotte Dean at the non-striker’s end to give a 3-0 win for India. When the incident happened, it was a divided house, questioning whether the run-out was within the spirit of the game.

Australia won the game by seven wickets and chased down the target of 157 in 16.3 overs. Stonis shinned for the Australians by scoring the fastest T20I fifty by an Australian.
