ODI World Cup 2023

Mitchell Starc confirms that he has no plans to retire from ODIs

Mitchell Starc confirms he has no plans to retire.

After an intense group-phase, we are now left with just three games in the ODI World Cup- the semi-finals and then the big Finale. The past 40 days have been a whirlwind of cricketing excellence, with fans witnessing a spectacular display of extraordinary talent and high-quality matches.

The intensity of the competition is bound to escalate now. The four remaining teams – India, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand – will be striving to deliver their absolute best, hoping to emerge victorious and claim the coveted World Cup trophy by Sunday. India and New Zealand will meet at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, November 15. On the following day, Australia and South Africa will lock horns in the second semi-final at the Eden Gardens. The winner of these two games will then go head-to-head on Sunday in the summit clash.

This week is also big as it could be the last time a few players feature in ODIs. The culmination of the World Cup will also mark the end of a cycle and a few retirements are expected. In fact, a few players including David Willey and Quinton de Kock have already made their call. However, one player who will definitely carry on is Australia’s Mitchell Starc.

I’ll look to keep playing after this: Mitchell Starc

“I’ll look to keep playing after this, but I don’t doubt that I won’t be making the next World Cup. I’ve no vision for that. Four years is a long,” he talked with reporters in Kolkata”, he said. He also added that Test Cricket remains his top priority and that when he eventually decides to retire, it will be white-ball cricket that he’ll give up first.

Starc, 33, had stunning returns in his first couple of World Cups in 2015 and 2019 but hasn’t been in the same vein of form this time around. He has picked up 10 wickets in 8 games so far at an average of 43.9. Starc will need to put up a better performance from hereon if the Aussies are to push for their 7th World Cup title.
