‘Mereko kyu toda?’- Says Pakistan Twitter as Zimbabwe fail to win against Netherlands in 20-20 World Cup Super 12 match
Netherlands and Zimbabwe both have both played some quality cricket in the qualifier to get to the Super 12 in the 20-20 World Cup. The two have done exceedingly well in Super 12 as well, as both teams were able to come up with some points.
The two clashed against each other on October 2nd in their fourth match wherein Zimbabwe had a chance to make their claim for the semi-final even stronger. However, they failed to do so.
After winning the toss, Zimbabwe opted to bat first and got off to a poor start as both openers Wesley Madhevere (1) and Craig Ervine (3) failed to put runs on the board for Zimbabwe. Wicketkeeper Regis Chakabva also failed to get going as he got out at just 5. It was Sean Williams (28) and Sikandar Raza (40) who built a solid partnership in the middle and got the Zimbabwe scoreboard going. With the help of these two ZImbbwe were able to get to 117 in 19.2 overs.
Paul van Meekeren took three wickets in his four-over spell whereas Brandon Glover and Logan van Beek both took a couple each.
Coming onto chase the small target Netherlands were led by Max ODowd who came up with a high-quality half-century (52) in just 47 deliveries. Tom Cooper also played a great knock of 32 off of 29 and took the Netherlands team closer to the target.
Bas de Leede who got hit in the eye against Pakistan took the team across the finish line and got the Netherlands a win by 5 wickets. With this win, the Netherlands have opened their account but still remain at sixth in Group 2 points table. Zimbabwe meanwhile stay at fourth. South Africa sit top of the table with India sitting at second.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Netherland’s win over Zimbabwe:
Congratulations @KNCBcricket for your first win over a Full Member this year after coming so close plenty of times in the Super League. For Zimbabwe 🇿🇼, unfortunately inconsistent batting has cost them again after a stirring win over Pakistan 🇵🇰! #T20WorldCup #ZIMvsNED https://t.co/5Ay0OIePOy

Massive win for the Netherlands! They have defeated Zimbabwe, they now have the same number of points in the group as Pakistan and Pakistan remain the only team to lose to Zimbabwe for now. Incredible result. #T20WorldCup

Bas De Leede after getting injured during the Pakistan game, still give his full heart out against Zimbabwe and completed his spell with 2 for 14 from 4 overs.

This is a beyond dismal performance😓. You just needed a win.. come on lads! We honestly need more fire power in batting. If Raza, Craig & Sean retire then we're done for. Shumba & Chakabva have been awful.
