‘Maza aa gaya’ – Fans react as India men’s cricket team beat Nepal to enter semifinal of Asian Games 2023
India defeated Nepal in the quarterfinal of the Asian games 2023 to enter the semifinal stage. Under the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad, India will play its first ever semifinal match in the history of Asian Games. The opponent for India is yet to be decided. But the win against Nepal would have given a lot of confidence to the Indian team going forward in the tournament.
India won the toss and elected to bat first. India got a fiery start, thanks to a sensational start from Yashasvi Jaiswal. The Southpaw was brilliant throughout the match, more so in the Powerplay overs. Jaiswal got to his fifty in just 22 balls and gave a brisk start to the Indian team. Gaikwad, at the other end, was struggling to get going and was dismissed in the process.
Tilak Varma also struggled to get going. The youngster scored 2 runs in 10 balls. Jitesh Sharma could not stay longer in the middle and scored 5 runs in 4 balls. But Jaiswal continued scoring from his end. In 49 balls, Jaiswal scored 100, which included 8 fours and 7 sixes. Jaiswal created history and became the youngest Indian batter to score hundred in T20Is.
Ravi Bishnoi and Avesh Khan shine with the ball
Though Jaiswal was dismissed against run of play, Rinku Singh gave a very good finish for the Indian team. With Dube struggling at the other end to finish well, Rinku took the onus on himself and hit some blows towards the end. In 15 balls, Rinku scored 37 runs, which included 2 fours and 4 sixes. The cameo from Rinku helped India to score 202 runs in their 20 overs. Chasing the target, Nepal struggled to get going at the start.
Kushal Bhurtel scored 28 runs in 32 balls and struggled to get going. Ravi Bishnoi and R Sai Kishore were brilliant in the middle overs. Avesh Khan bowled well and claimed 3 wickets. But Bishnoi was the star of the Indian bowling, who was miserly and wicket taking as well. Towards the end, the lower middle and lower order batters of Nepal tried their best to win the match, but in vain.
