‘May Allah keep our Kaptaan safe’- Cricket fraternity comes together to pray for Imran Khan after assassination attempt

Former Pakistan cricketer turned politician Imran Khan was shot at during a rally in Pakistan on Thursday. The former Pakistan Prime Minister was rushed to hospital following an assassination attempt and reports have now emerged that he got shot in the leg and is wounded as a result of it.

What followed was condemnation from all political and cricketing fraternity on social media. Pakistan captain Babar Azam led the reactions as he wrote on his Twitter handle, “Strongly condemn this heinous attack on Imran Khan. May Allah keep Kaptaan safe and protect our beloved Pakistan, Ameen.”

Former Pakistan Shoaib Akhtar who took the fast bowling baton from the likes of Imran Khan and Waseem Akram also posted a video condemning the act and wishing for a speedy recovery for the former skipper. Along with the video, he wrote, “Heard about the attack on Imran Khan. Alhamdolillah he is fine and in good spirits. This clip of him is from after the attack. I strongly condemn the attack.”

Pakistan batter Ahmed Shehzad also took to Twitter to share his heartfelt note. He wrote, “Violence and terrorism can never be condoned. This senseless and inhuman attempt at harming Imran Khan is just unacceptable. My prayers are with him for complete safety and full, quick recovery. Stay safe Pakistan.”

Following the assassination attempt, the whole of Pakistan has been engulfed by protests led by PTI and the situation is expected to turn even more unstable in the country.
