India and Australia squared off against each other in the third Test at Indore. Australia were all over India like a rash and Matthew Kuhnemann was the wrecker in chief for Australia as he picked up 5-16 in his 9-over spell which broke the back of the Indian top order. His wickets included Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav.

Kuhnemann talked about the secret sauce that helped him get wickets. The left-arm spinner also revealed that he had a chat with Jadeja which helped him to pick up wickets unlike the second Test at Delhi when he did not have much impact when he made his debut. Jadeja then picked up four wickets in a weird spell that he bowled for India.

Jadeja uses the crease very well – Mathew Kuhnemann

“I said, have you got any tips for me after the last Test? He said ‘yes, at the end of the series’,” Kuhnemann joked. “The way he uses his crease and probably the biggest thing I picked up in Delhi is that he brings his length back a little bit when the ball gets older. That’s probably the main thing I took out of the second Test and brought into this Test, probably my length. Don’t want to get full, especially on a wicket that stays low, being consistent on that 5-6 metre length,” he said on Wednesday. “I’m a massive fan of Jadeja and Ashwin so watched how they have bowled in the last few years,” The 26-year-old said.

India did not have the best of times with the bat as they succumbed to the spin trio of the Australians. India have not been able to play the spinners with control and also have been put under pressure at various times in the series but somehow have managed to wriggle out of it. The pitch at Indore was a rank turner and was a tough wicket to bat on. The Indian batters failed to get their act together.

India were dismissed for 109-10 in the first innings. Virat Kohli was the highest scorer for India as he scored 22 off 52 balls with two fours. For India so far in the series, the top-order batters have not been up to the mark and it has been the lower-order batters in Ashwin, Jadeja, Axar Patel and Srikar Bharat. Only Rohit Sharma has looked comfortable with the bat for India at the top.
