Matthew Hayden has his take on comparison between Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli

Matthew Hayden spoke about Virat Kohli's purple patch.

Matthew Hayden has given his opinion about the comparison between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. Lately, there have been a lot of talks about the two cricketers as Virat is nearing a big milestone. Currently, Virat has 48 hundred in ODIs, which is just one less than that of Tendulkar. Virat is finding it difficult to score a hundred recently but is getting fifty-plus scores for fun.

The conversion rate of Virat has not been that good lately. In the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, the Indian number 3 has three scores in the range of 80-95. In those three instances, Virat has failed to get to the three-digit mark. It started with his match-winning knock against Australia, where he scored 85 and helped the Indian team win the match against a strong side in Chennai.

But he could not get to his hundred, which hurt him visibly. Against New Zealand, Virat scored a match-winning 95(104) in Dharamshala, chasing a target of 274 runs. Towards the end, Kohli threw away his wicket and could not get to his hundred. Against Sri Lanka, Kohli scored 88 runs in 94 balls. But he missed out on scoring yet another hundred, after being so close to the milestone.

‘We shouldn’t take this period of Kohli’s career for granted’ – Matthew Hayden

While fans are worried about the milestones of Virat, the former cricketers are praising the consistency of Virat. So far in the tournament, Virat has been the second-highest run-scorer. In 7 matches, Kohli has 442 runs at an average of over 88. Kohli has 1 hundred and 3 fifty-plus scores to his name. These numbers have impressed many, including the former Australian cricketer, Matthew Hayden.

Speaking about the same, Hayden said “It is a masterclass watching Kohli and such a treat…we shouldn’t take this period of Kohli’s career for granted because in a blink of an eye like we discuss about Tendulkar, he will be gone. So, it is a great moment to keep savouring Virat Kohli at his absolute peak.” The Indian number 3 has at least 3 more games to equal the unique record of Tendulkar.
