KL Rahul has not been able to churn out big scores in the Test format in recent times. But it has been a different story in ODIs. The Karnataka batter has been in good form in ODIs. Rahul recently proved his worth with a great knock of 75 off 91 balls with seven fours and one six.

With the Indian T20 league to begin on March 31, Chris Gayle was asked a question on Jio Cinema as to who could break his record of the highest individual score, which came when he struck 175* against the Pune Franchise for Bangalore in 2013. To which he said  Rahul will break the record. Rahul has scored 3889 runs with four hundreds to his name in the tournament.

KL Rahul has three half-centuries when he has batted at Number 5 in ODIs

The man from Karnataka put on an unbeaten partnership of 150 for the sixth wicket with Ravindra Jadeja. Rahul first joined forces with Hardik Pandya who scored 25 off 31 balls with three fours and one six. Then Jadeja allied with Rahul when India were 83-5. The match could have taken a different course at that stage. The two experienced campaigners took India out of trouble. Jadeja scored an unbeaten 45 off 69 balls with five fours.

With the ball, Jadeja picked up 2-46 in his nine overs spell. This was a comprehensive win from India. Rahul has played dual roles for India in coloured clothing. He has batted in the top order and also in the middle order. Here is a look at KL Rahul at number 5 in ODIs since December 2022. The right-handed batter has scored 280 runs in seven innings to his name. He has an average of 56 and a strike rate of 83.08. He has the highest score of 75 and also has three half-centuries to boot.

Gayle and Rahul were good mates in Bangalore and Punjab and developed a great bond with each other. Rahul has led Punjab in the past without much success. He took Lucknow to a playoff spot in 2022 as the skipper under the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir. Lucknow lost to Bangalore in the eliminator in 2022.
